Events in the progression of the Ugandan Genocide.
1950's- Colonial British Government had was planning to exit the country of Uganda and instead, establish an independent government called the Buganda Tribe.
1971-1985- The Ugandan people are trying to fight for their lives, Amin regime killed over 100,000 from the Acholi and Lango Tribes, Obote regime killed 500,000 Baganda people.
1995- LRA launches an attack on village of Atiak, Killing and abductions of many people committing atrocities.
1997- LRA raids the Lamwo killing over 400 civilians and displacing around 100,000 others.
2002- The Ugandan People’s defense Force launches a giant military attack on the L.R.A, L.R.A fires back by targeting Ugandan refugee camps slaughtering hundreds of civilians.
2004- The U.P.D.F in conjunction with the Carter Center and the Pope John Paul II attempt mediation efforts with the L.R.A, L.R.A attacks the Barlonyo IDP camp killing over 300 people and abducting many others.
2005- Kony is indicted by the Criminal Court, for Crimes Against humanity.
2010- L.R.A kills over 1,600 Congolese civilians and abducted more than 2,500. Barack Obama signs the Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Ugands Recovery Act in May. The means that the U.S will send in 100 military advisors to train Ugandan commanders to hunt down Kony.
2012- Uganda establishes a four nation African Military Force, a brigade of 5,000 to hunt down Kony and the rest of the L.R.A. Invisible Children Launch a YouTube video, which goes viral. However it was taken down after U.S sends 100 military advisors to Uganda.
Crimes Committed
Arrest Warrant issued by International Criminal Court. Charged on his individual crimes responsibility with 12 accounts of crimes against humanity, and 21 accounts of war crimes. Charged with murder, rape, sexual enslavement of women and girls, and forcing children to fight, as well as mutilation and mass commitments of arson. Amin began to give orders to kill soldiers of the Acholi and Lango Tribes. Highest ranking died first then all the others were brought to various army barracks and were murdered either by bombing the barracks, or stabbing them one by one.
